Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Parenting Programme: Consultation Project

Funded by:

the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Timescale:

May 2006 - April 2007

Funding was provided to produce an extensive Evidence Paper and Literature Review of parenting support in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

This project involved research to discover the range of parenting work in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, to map this work, and identify gaps and overlaps.

This project began with a comprehensive literature search to identify parenting support models worldwide and research evidence about the strengths and limitations of various models. This research evidence was then linked to the RBKC case, and the needs of parents in the borough, and the relevance of existing support/need for development or extension and to inform service planning and delivery.

Phase 2 consisted of a further review of literature and research in relation to training available to parenting support facilitators and managers. This was then integrated with research around the needs of staff in RBKC delivering parenting support in relation to training, guidance and staff development. Phase 3 concluded the project by a review of evidence relating to post-group support for parents attending programmes.
